A busy leading man and now MuscleTech’s new Chief Creative Director, Henry Cavill has a pretty jam-packed schedule – or, as the native Brit might say, “a lot on his plate”. If he’s to keep up with the demands of his profession, which would give an athlete a run for their money, he can’t afford to have gaps in his nutrition strategy.
This is the MuscleTech supplement stack that Cavill takes every day to, in his own words, “make sure I’m alive and well and everything is running smoothly and I’m taking full advantage of my workouts”. Because if there’s one thing Cavill’s not, it’s someone who does things by halves.
Cavill typically wakes up between 4am and 5am, particularly if he’s filming and has to fit his training in before he’s due on set that day. (If you thought famous actors have all the time in the world to work out, think again.)
For breakfast, Cavill has a protein shake with oatmeal. His go-to is MuscleTech’s Grass-Fed 100% Whey Protein, which contains 20g of protein and just 140 calories per 35g serving but no artificial colours or flavors. It’s also free of growth hormone and gluten, plus non-GMO.
Whey is a high-quality, highly absorbable and highly convenient way to hit your daily protein intake, whatever your body composition or performance goals: whether you’re a lifter or runner, bulking up or slimming down. Upping your protein intake increases muscle gain, when combined with resistance training, and helps prevent muscle loss when dieting.
Consuming protein before exercise has also been shown to reduce muscle soreness after, improving recovery. And pound for pound, or gram for gram, whey is one of the best protein sources around. Particularly between 4am and 5am.
MuscleTech Grass-Fed 100% Whey Protein is also available in Triple Chocolate flavor but Cavill’s preferred variety is Deluxe Vanilla: “Because there’s blueberries in ma shake and those two things go very well together.”

After his protein shake and oatmeal, Cavill will have soft tissue work from his physiotherapist, Freddie Murray of Remedy. Depending where Cavill is in his workout program, that could be a “flush session” to loosen up stiff muscles or a more aggressive (and less relaxing) mobilization to prepare them – and him – to perform.
But first, pre-workout. Cavill takes MuscleTech’s Shatter Elite, which incorporates an array of active ingredients – including caffeine, which is well proven to extend endurance and fight fatigue. A single scoop of Shatter Elite delivers 350mg of caffeine – about the same amount as five espressos.
Shatter Elite’s 1.2g of N03-T® red spinach extract boosts nitric oxide, which ramps up blood flow. Studies suggest NO may enhance performance by reducing your body’s oxygen demand during exercise – but there’s no doubt it amps up your pump. The 6g of L-citrulline also facilitates blood flow. And the 3.2g of beta-alanine buffers acid, so you can squeeze out extra reps in the weight room or push yourself that bit harder in your cardio.
Dual-sourced choline (a molecule that supports brain function and muscle control), Zynamine® (a proprietary form of antioxidant-rich mango extract), Dynamine® (a caffeine-like compound): Shatter Elite’s scientifically-engineered, fully disclosed formula has everything you could want to get you going, and nothing you don’t.
“This stuff is fantastic,” says Cavill. “It is absolutely what I need to get through my workout in the morning. Especially considering it is so early.”
Shatter Elite delivers the perfect combination of key ingredients that are clinically dosed to provide results in performance, energy and muscle.
Finally, Cavill will make himself a MuscleTech Amino Build Elite: “Just to make sure that I am maximising the potential of my workout.”
Amino Build Elite boasts a total of 12.7g of amino acids, including 8g of BCAAs, which stands for Branched-Chain Amino Acids: specifically, leucine, isoleucine and valine (bonus points if you named all three). BCAAs are the building blocks of protein, which is in turn the raw material of muscle.
The “hero” BCAA is leucine: the MVP of muscle protein synthesis, the process whereby protein to repair damage caused by exercise and the driving force behind positive adaptations like getting bigger and stronger. Leucine is depleted by exercise and your body can’t make more: you have to get it from your diet. Hence why leucine is also known as an (if not the) “essential” amino acid. You need it.
Thankfully, Amino Build Elite provides 4g of leucine, plus 400g of Peak ATP®, which is a patented form of adenosine triphosphate: the fuel your body runs on. Speaking of running, studies suggest that taking BCAAs before exercise can prolong endurance during and limit soreness after. And if you’re swinging for the fences with your physique or fitness, you’ll want to cover your bases first.
