You’ve probably heard the advice to wear a mask, socially distance, skip aerobics classes and come during off-peak hours. But, if you’re still fearful of what lurks on exercise equipment and in the humid environment, here are a couple more tips to consider.
>> Keep your phone at home for the short term. You don’t need to be touching it between sets!
>> Retire your gym towel, which can easily spread germs onto your face as you wipe your sweat or put it down on a bench. We suggest a headband and full-length T-shirt to sop up all that extra sweat.
>> Do more exercises in fewer stations. Instead of jumping all over the gym to complete your workout, find exercise variations that you can do with a single piece of equipment. Clean it well and stay put.
>> Be sure to disinfect anything that your hands touch, including weight pins and adjustment levers – even more than pads you sweat on, because sweat doesn’t pass on the virus. You can even bring your own container of disinfectant wipes, so as to not touch the same spray bottle that everyone has.
>> It’s humid in the shower area, meaning there are lots of water droplets in the air. Skip it!
