Personal File

I really respect all fighters who fight hard and leave everything behind in the cage. In that sense, I won't win every fight, but I feel like I have the ability to always put on a great performance. I hope to be remembered in the sport as someone who's contributed to it. I love teaching and training with people who are eager to learn. I have a true passion for MMA and take a sort of Japanese philosophical approach to it. Some of my other goals include winning the World Championships in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & continuing to compete in Judo.

I would like to thank Team MuscleTech for their continued support. Nutrition is a huge factor in my success & sponsorship is important to help me reach my goals.

How did you get started in MMA?

I began training in judo at the age of eight, and eventually earned my black belt in my late teens. I competed on the Canadian national team but made the decision to put competition on the back burner to concentrate on earning a university degree. I ended up at university where I earned a masters degree and began to feel the itch to compete again. A few weeks after finishing university I made a trek to Japan to train where Judo had originated. I spent three months at a judo Mecca strengthening my skills. While I was there, I decided to see how far my training could take me.

I returned to Canada and moved to Montreal to train. Wanting to continue my evolution as a judo fighter, I decided to begin training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

While on a trip to Brazil for an international judo competition, I decided to stay and train at a top academy in Rio De Janiero to improve my ground game. The experience not only helped my level of jiu-jitsu, it also pushed me one step closer to beginning a career in MMA. For the first time in my life, I really had the opportunity to train without a gi.

After returning home again, I worked hard to improve my stand-up and wrestling and turned my newfound skills into a four-fight win streak that garnered me a middleweight title in my fifth professional fight.

So far, I have fought in several organizations.

What was your first MMA fight like?

My first MMA fight was a reality check. I went into the ring prepared, but lost. It really changed the way I viewed the sport. I accepted that loss and used it as motivation for my current four fight win streak, in which I finished all of my opponents in the first round. I've been confident in all of my fights including the one I lost. My confidence comes from preparation. I always strive to train harder than my opponents.

What do you consider your strengths and weaknesses when it comes to fighting?

My strengths are definitely my takedowns and my BJJ, as well as my strength & conditioning. My stand-up continues to improve, but it's tough to catch up to 23 years of grappling. I am currently ranked a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & a blackbelt in Judo.

What are your future MMA plans?

My next fight is still to be determined. I have lots of great opportunities coming up, both here in North America and overseas.
